Summary: The Mental Health Provider will be responsible for providing direct mental health services to Mets players and consultation to coaches and staff in both English and Spanish. In this role, the Provider will also be responsible for providing education to players, including those at our academy in the Dominican Republic.  The Mental Health Provider will be based in Port St. Lucie, FL, but will be traveling to various affiliates as well.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be a part of a collaborative mental health team promoting mental health and well-being across the NY Mets organization. Such efforts will be made through direct clinical work, implementation of relevant policies and procedures, and engaging with players and staff on and off the baseball field at our various training facilities.
  • Conduct initial evaluations, assist with mental health screening, and deliver ongoing individual mental health care for Mets players
  • Provide consultation to coaches and staff regarding how to best support player mental health and well-being
  • Facilitate educational sessions for players and staff on topics related to mental health
    Have strong working relationships with our Mental Performance Coaches and participate in affiliate performance team meetings to promote interdisciplinary collaboration with Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training, Dietitians, etc.
  • Participate in clinical case consultation with the Mental Health Department
  • Maintain active mental health licensure in New York and FL (and PSYPACT if possible)
  • Provide crises intervention and consultation for members of our organization as needed
  • Develop a deep understanding of MLB Rules & Regulations to ensure managing within policies and procedures; help maintain required player documentation including but not limited to therapeutic use exemption (TUE) management
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain high level of service provision (cost covered by the New York Mets) as well as licensure/certification requirements
  • Represent the Mets in MLB league wide initiatives such the MLB Summer Mental Health Meetings

Qualifications:

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in psychology or a related field (e.g., social work, counseling)
  • Active mental health licensure in FL and NY (or license eligible within 6 months)
  • Fluent in Spanish (and capable of conducting therapy in Spanish)
  • Being willing to relocate and be based at player development complex in Port St. Lucie, FL

Preferred qualifications:

  • Training and experience in working with athletes/performers
  • Currently have or are working towards AASP CMPC.
