Program Goals

The purpose of this three-day seminar is to bring together
psychologists and mental health providers who practice
in NCAA Division I/II/III collegiate athletic settings,
professional teams, and elite/Olympic athletic programs
in providing psychological health care for athletes. This
meeting is a unique, invitation-only opportunity to dialogue,
collaborate, and informally develop collegial relationships
with professionals who do similar work.
As the demands and stressors of sport combine with the
challenges of social, family, academic and developmental
goals, athletes are often at an increased risk for behavioral
health issues such as anxiety disorders, depression,
disordered eating/body image issues, substance abuse, and
adjustment problems (e.g. transitional stress, retirement,
injury).
Psychologists and mental health providers who provide
counseling and therapy for collegiate student-athletes
often have few resources to use in seeking consultation
regarding the clinical issues of this unique population. The
primary purpose of this seminar is to provide collegial and
collaborative discussion on the psychological health issues
of the collegiate and elite athlete.
